On Friday May 4th, 2012, Vancouver architect Darryl Condon graces the CreativeMornings/Vancouver stage at W2 Media Cafe to speak from the perspective of a creative to a room full of caffeinated early bird creatives questing for some inspiration.
With a resume that reads like a dog-eared chapter in the encyclopedia of Vancouver public spaces, Darryl’s work has made an indelible mark on the city’s urban landscape.
Been to the new ice rink at Robson Square? How ’bout the Hillcrest Community Centre over by Queen E Park? Killarney Community Pool? Darryl and his team at Hughes Condon Marler Architects designed those community spaces.
CreativeMornings/Vancouver is a free breakfast lecture series for creatives held on the first Friday of every month. Past speakers have included Flickr co-founder Stewart Butterfield, Rethink mad man Ian Grais, musician/author Biff Naked, interactive artist Alex Beim, public engagement specialist Amanda Gibbs, interactive designer Gagan Diesh and transmedia artist Sergio Toporek, among other notables local talents.
CreativeMornings started in New York in 2008 and has since expanded to 21 cities around the world, attracting top creative professionals for free breakfast, free coffee and free inspiration from some of the world’s top creative thinkers.
Industrial Brand’s Mark Busse brought the franchise to Vancouver in August 2011, making it the first chapter in Canada.
The format is the same in every city for every event: 20-minute talk, 20-minute Q&A, 20-minute mingler. Breakfast and coffee are complimentary. In by 9, out by 10 – and off you go to sow your seeds of inspiration.
The May event is hosted by the generous folks at W2 Media Cafe and co-presented by the BC Chapter of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada; breakfast is sponsored by CAPIC (the Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators).
Tickets are sold out for this month’s event, but the waitlist is still open: http://creativemorningsvancouver.eventbrite.com. (Word is, if you’re on the waitlist and you show up by 8:30, there’s a strong likelihood you’ll get a seat.)
