Acclaimed Vancouver architect and artist exhibits at Winsor Gallery
Richard Henriquez: Narrative Fragments
EXHIBIT DATES: June 7-June 30, 2012
LOCATION: Winsor Gallery, 3025 Granville Street
Richard Henriquez, founding partner of Vancouver’s Henriquez Partners Architects, is exhibiting his latest works at Winsor Gallery on South Granville this June, 2012.
On exhibit will be a number of two-dimensional light-box works, a sculptural installation and several tripod sculptures. Instead of supporting equipment for measuring space or seeing into the future, Henriquez’s reclaimed surveyors tripods hold poetic assemblages that incorporate a variety of objects: a horned musical instrument, photographs and slides, feathers, and even a skull. These whimsical sculptures are inquisitive inventions, they entice the viewer to imagine the stories of how these objects came to be, and exactly who, or what, they are.
“Henriquez’s works are layered and complex. Old photographs, scraps of writing and newspapers, found objects – his sculptures and drawings can be both allusive and elusive but always thrilling,” says gallery owner Jennifer Winsor. “This exhibition will be the most extraordinary collection of his works that have been available for public viewing since the artist’s highly regarded Memory Theatre installation that premiered at the Vancouver Art Gallery, travelled to the Canadian Center for Architecture and was also exhibited at the Venice Biennale.”
