The new $38-million Carson Graham secondary school was unveiled this week in North Vancouver.  Built to LEED Gold standards, the school is part of the international baccalaureate program and houses a number of functions including a robotics and pre-engineering lab, computer animation design facilities — “$150,000 worth of software” — a professional teaching kitchen, computer labs and state-of-the-art audiovisual and data systems for classrooms.

The requirements bidders interested in building the new waste-to-energy plant for Metro Vancouver has been made public and include having recently operated a reference plant somewhere in the world where they can prove their technology processes at least 25,000 tonnes per year of municipal garbage.

Look out 18 West Hastings, a new microloft seems to be on the horizon! If city council gives the OK to a new housing project at the corner of Whalley Boulevard and Grosvenor Road, Surrey will be the new home to Canada’s smallest condominium, measuring 290-square-foot. It will be part of 56 tiny condos inside a four-storey wood frame building by developer Tien Sher. Thirty-three of the suites will be 305 square feet or smaller and the largest will be a 653 square foot single bedroom condo priced under $180,000.

More than 270 Chilliwack residents have already requested to take home a piece of the old Paramount Theatre. City officials are offering the theatre seats in groups of four, to be given away in a lottery.

Great news for First Nations people, local historians and archeology buffs as an ancient village sitting along the banks of B.C.’s Babine River that may have been used as a crossroad for First Nations dating back more than 1,300 years is finally being excavated. While the Babine Lake First Nation knew their ancestors’ village was there, experts had not searched the site until recently.
