Lisa Anne Smith will talk about Seraphim “Joe” Fortes at the Vancouver Historical Society’s next meeting on Thursday April 25. Co-written with Barbara Rogers, Our Friend Joe: The Joe Fortes Story (Ronsdale Press, 2012), covers Joe’s work as a lifeguard, swimming instructor and special constable at English Bay right up until he is voted “Citizen of the Century” 100 years later.
Free monthly meetings are held at the Museum of Vancouver, 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month.
