Think research is boring and unrelated to the real world? Think again! Researching the City is an inspirational evening showcasing how seemingly “abstract” research activities, all related in some way to the SFU 2015 Community Summit theme of city-building, have real world impact on our city.

Our evening begins with an interactive public gallery of faculty, staff and student research from SFU’s Vancouver Campus. Enjoy light refreshments as you stroll through different showcase presentations from a variety of SFU departments and programs. Chat directly with the researchers about their work and how it serves the broader community.

Afterwards, ticket holders will gather for a series of rapid-fire presentations and moderated panel discussion. Outstanding researchers will tell the story of how their work contributes to—and learns from—the city and its residents. Through the lenses of public policy, planning, economic development, social justice, and health and well-being, the evening promises a hopeful and illuminating examination of the intersection between the university and the city.

Presented in partnership with SFU Vancouver, the Department of Urban Studies, and the School of Public Policy. Hosted by Joy Johnson, SFU Vice-President, Research.
