Vancity Call to Artists – Expressions of Interest for site-specific art commissions for redesigned Vancity branches

Vancity is now accepting submissions from artists or artist teams living in the Vancity trade area (Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Squamish and Victoria) to design and integrate five site-specific art commissions for two redesigned branches. The commissions include two concierge wall art installations and three artworks for a community room.
Quick Details:
- * The five art commissions are for Vancity’s Shaughnessy Station (Port Coquitlam) and South Burnaby Branches.
- Artists can apply for up to five commissions with a maximum of three submissions for each commission. Each submission must be separate.
- Proposed commissions can be single or multi-dimensional.
- For the concierge wall commissions: Vancity is seeking submissions that reflect and interpret, in a celebratory way, the rich and diverse culture of each community. Content / themes can be social, economic or environmental or a combination of all three.
- For the community room artworks: Vancity is seeking submissions that uniquely consider environmental and social impact in the South Burnaby community.
- Preference will be given to submissions that aim to incorporate up-cycled, recycled, sustainably sourced, salvaged, found and/or other natural media.
- Commissions must be permanent and require no upkeep. Final installations must be low VOC with little or no off-gassing.
The five selected artists or artist teams will be awarded fees ranging from $1,500 to $9,000, as well as a supplemental materials budget. Selected applicants will be notified by email on Friday, July 13th, 2012.
All commissioned artworks must be completed and installed on site in our new branches by September 15th, 2012.
Submissions can be sent digitally or by mail.
Digital Submission Deadline: 11:59 pm, Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012.
Mailed Submissions must be postmarked by: Wednesday, June 27th, 2012.
