That Door in Your Forehead
by Daggar Earnshaw

Here are your eyes
poured into sockets
beaten eggs
milk and pus

Slide your wet hands
into our 2-slice toaster
We’ve set it on “bagels
– a roomy convenience

Twist this rubber car
til it bleeds gasoline
a cup of black petrol
is your coffee today

And where are the kids?
Pointing their fingers
in the pencil sharpener
swallowing batteries
– glowing in the dark

We’ve come so far
just to make you
feel at home
At least invite us in
behind that door
in your forehead
