Metro Vancouver is voting today on whether or not to create hydroelectric power at its Seymour and Capilano dams via adding turbines and generators to the existing dams. If adopted, they could power thousands of homes and generate millions of dollars in revenue each year for Metro.
Looks like Burns Lake sawmill – destroyed in a fatal fire in January in Burns Lake, BC – will be rebuilt while the decision to rebuild Lakeland Mills in Prince George – destroyed in an explosion on April 23, 2012 – remains in limbo.
In Surrey, three business organizations – South Surrey and White Rock Chamber of Commerce, Surrey Board of Trade and the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce – are supporting the creation of a South Surrey casino, wanting to allegedly the $85 million of annual gaming revenue within the province.
It appears developer Onni Group is giving up on its proposal to build a mixed-used development on the Safeway site in North Vancouver at Lonsdale and 13th citing continuous difficulties created by Councillor Pam Bookham and Rod Clark. Both Councillors believe Onni manipulated the town hall meeting and public hearing, manufacturing public support for the project.
