The City of Surrey is pleased to announce the return of our pop-up park design-build competition, the 2014 PARKit Design Challenge. Individuals and groups are invited to submit their unique ideas for a creative, sustainable, outdoor public space capable of supporting mobile food vendors. Check out the details and submit your design for the 2014 PARKit Design Challenge!
Through PARKit, the City of Surrey transforms parts of parking lots and underutilized areas into temporary pop-up parks, with vibrant urban green spaces. When PARKit activations pop up, they animate boring grey spaces into exciting people places. PARKit also provides the opportunity to grab a bite from a mobile food truck.
Last year, the City expanded the program with the PARKit Design Challenge, a public competition for the design and installation of a summertime pop-up park. Check out the winning design and other finalists.

We look forward to seeing more great submissions this year!

PARKit History
The first PARKit was activated in mid April, 2012, in the North Surrey Recreation Centre parking lot. It was developed as a pilot project in coordination with Party for the Planet. Our first activation was such a great success that a second stand-alone installation was activated later that summer. In 2013, the introduced the PARKit Design Challenge, a successful public design-build competition for the a summertime pop-up park.
Each PARKit activation has included a number of food trucks and vendors. The idea was that we would test out the feasibility of a permanent food truck program in the City, which we are now working on! Some of the food carts that have attended PARKit included Dougie Dog, It’s All About Grill, Bubble Gallo, Num Num Food Cart, Guanaco Truck. We believe that the more variety and diversity the better.
PARKit is coordinated by the Parks Planning & Design section at the City of Surrey.
