Christine McLaren and Erin Millar of Discourse Media just launched an exciting and important journalism project leading up to this spring’s transportation referendum. Titled Moving Forward, it is an independent journalism project aimed at fostering a productive conversation about the real potential impacts of the referendum vote.
You can support them and their initiative by donating to their Indiegogo campaign here.
Much of the media we see about this referendum is highly political, and opinions-driven. By producing highly engaging, data-driven multimedia content (infographics, video, animation, etc—the kind that gets passed around on social media and talked about in the locker room) they hope to help people better understand the nuances of the transportation system and the issues at hand. This, in an effort to elevate the conversation and empower voters to make a more informed decision. They want to make this information more accessible and engaging to everyone in the region—not just transportation geeks in Vancouver.
The content will be housed on a stand-alone website and published through partnerships media outlets throughout the region.
We all know how critical this vote is to the future of our region, and how challenging it can be for the average citizen to navigate their way through the muddy waters of information out there. McLaren and Millar believe this project will go a long way in helping people do so.
The perks you can get for donating include anything from t-shirts printed with one of the project’s most popular infographics to a SkyTrain-propelled party night with your pals.
Feel free to support them by sharing their campaign by emailing your networks (feel free to copy and paste this text—personal emails go a long way), and posting on Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks.
