HALIFAX – We’re not even two days into 4Days Better City LAB ‘unconference’, and ideas have begun to whiz around the city.  Last night’s mobility session had folks from all walks of life talking transportation in the city; this evening’s enterprise event will invite the public to invest in each others innovations; tomorrow will tackle government, Pecha Kucha style; and on Saturday, public space will finally turn victim to our creativity.

Spacing Atlantic is delighted to co-host public space day’s walking tour and workshop (“walkshop”), where we aim to generate ideas for the downtown’s stockpile of vacant spaces. Day-use parking lots, areas awaiting development, limbo spaces… join us as we turn these cavities into sites of creative opportunity.

What do you envision for these blank canvasses? What can we imagine as other interim uses to benefit our community, culture & economy? What social, cultural and creative voids in our community might be filled through utilizing these physical voids in our landscape?

We’ll start to think through some of these questions and generate ideas on a walk through downtown, which we’ll take back with us to split-off sessions at the AGNS. Local artists David ClarkKim Morgan and Leola Le Blanc will lead a workshop to help develop a piece of public art for Halifax about the “dream city” using digital and locative media. Meanwhile Spacing team members will run a concurrent session on how to make some of our ideas for specific vacant public site come to fruition in the city, using creative mapping, open discussion and lessons from away.

All welcome and encouraged to come!
