Devillers himself, explains:

This talk will present a brief history of mapping, highlighting more specifically the role of technological innovations in the past which has allowed mapping to become more accurate and accessible to the general public. Recent technological developments such as the miniaturization of GPS receivers, combined with progress in wireless communications and with the Internet, are opening the doors to emerging technologies that make an increasing use of information about our location. When using cell phones, Internet, social networking sites, or even driving our car, geospatial technologies allow us to access massive amounts of information surrounding our location. While these technologies improve the quality of our lives, they also bring new challenges especially in terms of individual privacy and security. You are being watched.
