If you’re looking for something to do this cold January evening, check out Citymess, put on by the fine folks at Indyish. It promises to be an eclectic mix of music (Lake of Stew, among others), film (highlighting Griffintown history) and visual arts. Also, AJ Kandy will be showing his alternative New Urbanist plan for Griffintown.

This event takes place at Studio 300 in Old Montreal. From Métro Place d’Armes, walk south to Notre Dame and then west 2 blocks to St-François-Xavier. Doors at 8:30. The show will start at 9pm.

  1. Hey, thanks for the plug, we had great turnout.

Just quickly though, it’s not just me, it’s a project I’ve been working on with Stephanie Troeth – we presented it originally at the 2nd Pecha Kucha Night at the SAT back in September 2007 and started the blog as a way to keep the dialogue going.

It’s not really an alternative plan in the sense of a complete urban master plan, but more a little Photoshop mockup we did to illustrate how it’s possible to use New Urbanist practices to build a real “Montreal neighborhood,” as opposed to a mall and generic condo towers. We will probably do more, now that we have a sense of the scale and scope of the project (the massing studies have been done, but their mockups were rather quick cut-and-paste, supposedly).

We’ll be posting very shortly on the great response we got at City Mess (which was awesome, thanks to the organizers and hosts), and on the buzz from the first of the public consultations that we attended this week.

    Cheers!
