Photo du jour: Dorchester Square

Dorchester Square, which is still widely known by its original name, Dominion Square, is set for a makeover. $3.5 million will be invested in giving it, along with the adjacent Place du Canada, “a little contemporary twist,” according to one landscape architect working on the project. Something tells me the picnic tables that currently dot the squares will be scrapped.

  1. I think there’s something wrong with the above link…

  2. I hope that they plan on replacing them with some other sort of park furniture; on a daily basis there are a number of people from the surrounding buildings who use that park for breaks and lunches. It’s usually very hard to get a picnic table if you are going down to eat. It would be a pity if the park were to be ‘improved’ by removing a major function of said parks.

  3. bring it back to it’s glory days! back when all the trails were symmetric. and had a parisian feel to it.

  4. There are always sketchy characters hanging out there – what’s up with that? I believe there’s drug trade as well. I don’t even understand where they are coming from – the bus terminal? St-Catherine street?

  5. P.S. I just want to make clear that I am not referring to anyone in this photo – just a general comment.

  6. It would be nice if they did something about the excessive littering. It would be nice if they did something about it in the whole city :)

  7. Dorchester Square was one of my favourite places when I lived in Montreal. Especially the area across from the magnificent Canada Life building on the East side.

It seemed to me that the litter, homeless, and sketchy characters were largely concentrated to Place du Canada.

More importantly however is the question: where are they going to shoot Just for Laughs gags during the renovations?!
