Having spent way more hours than I care to remember au Station Centrale its not the heiffers that surprise me, in for a day trip with the 20 minute Kirkland Express no doubt; but I’ve never noticed the similarities in style the building has to Ben’s, whose passing was well documented in this same column. I suppose it could just be the rounded corner like a turret, or the ‘Deli’ sign or the haunting of the Ben’s phantom playing with my mind.
I think that’s what I miss most about the sixties: the regular cattle drives on de Maisonneuve Blvd.
Est-ce que quelqu’un peut m’expliquer ce qu’il y avait dans le secteur durant les années 60 pour qu’on y voit des vaches? Marché public? Abattoir?
Can someone explain why cattle would have been in the area in the 60’s? Public market? Slaughterhouse?
À l’emplacement actuel de la grande bibliothèque se dressait autrefois le palais du commerce.
Parfois, lors d’évènements spéciaux ou d’exposition agricole, une parade avec le bétail était organisée dans les rues environnantes.

Dans les années 60, ce n’était pas le boulevard Maisonneuve, mais la rue De Montigny (d’où l’appellation de «Berri-DeMontigny») dont un petit bout subsiste entre St-Laurent et St-Urbain (http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=45.509937,-73.565885)
