Spacing is gonna cost you a little more in 2009.

The Toronto-based magazine announced today that the price of a single copy will rise to $8 — up from $7 — starting with the Spring issue (due out in mid-April). Spacing publisher Matthew Blackett said, “The magazine is run on a very tight budget with little wiggle room for fluctuations in advertising and newsstand sales. We compared our pricing to other magazines of similar size, frequency and editorial content, and decided in order to make sure Spacing continues to succeed as a business we have to take small steps like this. We’re still very affordable compared to most architecture and design-oriented magazines which sell for up to $18. But more than anything, we need more people to subscribe — there is nothing better a reader can do for us than to buy a subscription for themselves or friends.”

Prices for subscriptions will remain the same at $15 (one year, 3 issues) and $29 (two years, 6 issues), saving readers about 40% off of the newsstand price. Gift subscriptions will also stay the same at $13 and $25. Please check out the Spacing Store if you wish to purchase a subscription.
