I have always had mixed feelings about this complex. They are massive buildings in terms of square footage/floor plates but they are short and come across as stumpy; in the overall skyline they tend to stand out as the focal point. I find that they speak poorly to the street and worst of all, they effectively erase the stunning, original Bell Canada Building on Beaver Hall Hill from just about every angle. (see, you don’t need a 45 story building to have a negative outcome – they also come in short and fat buildings too!)
I taller, more elegantly shaped/proportioned tower on that site would have been (potentially) much better.
^ I agree with Edward. A leaner, taller tower would have worked much better on this spot.
Il y a vingt-cinq ans, juste après leur ouverture, il y avait eu une tempête de verglas et les deux édifices étaient couverts d’une couche mince de glace qui a commencé à se détacher, plaque par plaque correspondant aux plaques d’aluminium (de l’ordre de 1m50 par 3m) du revêtement extérieur.
Les plaques de glace tombaient, intactes, et, peu importe l’étage d’où elles partaient, vers le onzième étage, elles se brisaient en plus petits morceaux, comme si à cette hauteur, il y avait une couche d’air plus dense.
C’était extrêmement étrange à voir, mais ça empêchait d’entrer à l’intérieur, à moins de passer par l’entrée du Métro, car les abords étaient dangereux…
