    an there is a difference between a demonstration and a gathering. There shouldn’t be, but there is.

It doesn’t need to be an “illegal demonstration/gathering”.  It’s against the Highway Code, section 500, to block traffic and occupy a roadway.  Since the cops don’t want to deal with Bill 78 being challenged, they have used the Highway Code instead against student demonstrations. They could have used it here too.

    But of course, these people were behaving “within” “the system” and not protesting “against” “the system”, so they get a pass.

    Quite telling.

  4. @Chris – ya – out of ~400,000 people that have marched “illegally” in Montreal, about 900 have been given highway code infractions. Quite telling indeed.
