Urban Planet: Spinning flywheels boost subways

We can only imagine the amount of energy it takes so send subways around the city. Here’s an article that has at least one solution taken from the days of steam engines. In order to capture braking energy, subways could use flywheels.

  1. Or the trains could just use regenerative braking like Vancouver’s Skytrain system.  The skytrain system uses linear induction motors (no moving parts to break down) and the motors can be used to recapture the energy.
