[murmur] is happy to announce we have started on our biggest project yet: Toronto’s Spadina Avenue. We are currently searching for and recording stories that have occurred along the street, from Bloor to Queens Quay.
We want you to tell us your stories: short tales and anecdotes that are located, at least in part, somewhere on Spadina. They could have happened last week or 50 years ago. Also, we’re interested in the stories you know about – the history and events you tell people about when you walk down the street with them. If it means something to you, it will be important to the rest of us. We want to preserve what has made Toronto the city it is, and let everybody hear about it. We can’t overstate how important it is that people tell us where the stories are — it makes the project richer, and more reflective of the city.
[murmur] is actively encouraging ethnic, cultural, community or arts groups that have a connection to Spadina to contact us, and use [murmur] as a way of telling their stories, ensuring their voices remain part of Toronto’s urban fabric. If you know of a group we should contact, please tell us about them, or introduce us to them, or even record their stories yourself (see below). Email shawn@murmurtoronto.ca with your ideas.
[murmur] is also looking for interns and volunteers to find, record and possibly edit stories. If you’re interested in exploring a particular community, block or even building along Spadina, [murmur] can be your excuse (it’s certainly ours). As well, if you want experience in what amounts to a mix of radio documentary, cultural anthropology, journalism and sidewalk-sleuthing, contact us at the above email.
