Join the City of Toronto Archives and the Archives of Ontario on Wednesday, April 4 to celebrate Archives Awareness week. Hear from some of Ontario’s most acclaimed authors whose work has been inspired and informed by archival records.

Date: Wednesday, April 4 (today!)
Time: 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
Location: Atrium, City of Toronto Archives, 255 Spadina Rd.
Cost: Free

CBC Radio’s Matt Galloway will host the event.

Three award-winning Ontario authors will discuss how archives have inspired and assisted them with their works, and will read from their recently published books. The authors are:

Barbara Greenwood, author of Factory Girl and other award-winning historical fiction
Lawrence Hill, celebrated writer of the recently published Book of Negroes — a novel inspired by an archival record of the same name
Michael Redhill, award-winning author of the recently published Consolation — a novel in which Toronto’s landscape and history play a central role.

This is a free event but space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended. Call Paul Sharkey at 416-392-0558 to reserve tickets.

  1. Are the archives easily accessible online?

Spacing seems to have access to a lot of sweet historical pics, eg for the “guess-this-intersection” contest.

    Where do they come from?

  2. For all its utility and role as a Toronto icon, we should remember the contractor for this eastern half went bankrupt.
