  1. Moscoe is such an idiot – “we can’t have hybrid cabs unless everyone has a hybrid”. Thank god he doesn’t run TTC any more. The economics of cabs are different in Toronto but gas costs more here and the City could give cabs a break on licencing fees to encourage a switch.

It’s sad when even the taxi companies themselves have a more open mind that the guy who is supposed to regulate them, whose feud with GTAA and Mississauga will increase cab emissions until a bilateral licence is negotiated.

Cabs are ideal choices for hybrids as they hang around a lot (idling), mostly downtown where air quality is crap and make short journeys with little highway mileage. If we have to have them blocking up half of King from Bay to John, let’s have cleaner ones. But this is a city that can’t figure out that their first hybrid buses, delivered on Moscoe’s watch, should have gone on the Bay Street route to replace the 25 year old GM buses.

(I have also noticed in the past two weeks that US car makers are highlighting *highway* mileage rather than total consumption in their ads for non-hybrid cars, because that’s the driving regime hybrids don’t have an advantage in)
