WHAT: Da Big Block Party

White Ribbon Campaign Canada (WRC) has partnered with a group of youth from Serve!’s Experience This! program who have organized “Da Big Block Party” event at Nathan Phillips Square. This free event features musicians, spoken word artists, poets, and seeks to raise awareness about eliminating violence against women.

How many times have you heard that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure? It’s a familiar saying, and for good reason: it’s true! Bring your unwanted and unused “stuff” to your local Community Environment Day, hosted by your city councillor, and transform your trash into treasure.

WHAT: Annual Spring Fling at Todmorden Mills

Friends of the Don East (FODE) present the 11th Annual FODE Spring Fling. Kick off the season by participating in the regular clean-up operation of Todmorden Mills, followed by a free organic BBQ and interpretive walk of the Wildflower Preserve.

The West Toronto Junction Historical Society is celebrating the 100th anniversary of West Toronto (now the Junction) becoming a city. Festivities will include live entertainment, art and music, and walking tours of the High Park neighbourhood and Dundas St.

WHAT: Streets are for People! Earth Day Preparations

Join Streets are for People! for an afternoon of sign, banner, and craft making to liven up our Earth Day rally and parade. Bring cardboard scavenged from recycling day in your ‘hood, any straight-ish sticks you’ve got kicking around, left-over coloured house paint, and/or any other materials you wish to use or share.

WHAT: Community Support Day at Whole Foods for FODE
WHEN: April 15, 10 am – 9 am
WHERE: Whole Foods at Hazelton Lanes (87 Avenue Rd.)

On this day, Whole Foods supermarket will be holding a Community support day for Friends of the Don East (FODE). If you shop with them on that date, 5% of all sales will be donated by Whole Foods to FODE. All money raised will go towards the FODE’s ongoing restoration work in the Don Valley.

WHAT: This Is Not A Reading Series: Toronto: A City Becoming
WHEN: April 14, 7 pm – 12 am

No one would dispute that Toronto is undergoing a major transformation. For award-winning author and editor David McFarlane, the debate starts with the corollary question: Where is it headed? He asked ten of our city’s leading writers, architects and academics to address this issue, and then assembled their essays in Toronto: A City Becoming.

Jian Ghomeshi, host of CBC Radio’s Q, will moderate a town hall-style panel featuring such anthology contributors as Globe and Mail columnist John Barber, art critic Sarah Milroy, author Linda McQuaig, photographer Michael Awad, and collection editor David Macfarlane.
