In the fall the conversation about cities — and Toronto specifically — was continued and advanced with the release of Concrete Toronto. Co-editors of the book, Graeme Stewart and Michael McClelland of ERA Architects, will be engaged in a reading, slide-show presentation and roundtable discussion with Mark Kingwell tonight for a Festival of Architecture and Design event at Harbourfront. For his part, Kingwell has recently released his latest book, Concrete Reveries, an “intellectual journey through modern cities.” The discussion will revolve around the idea of sacred space in cities, and include a slide show, moderated by Lisa Rapoport of PLANT Architects. Spacing readers are well aware of our close association with ERA Architects, a firm that has gone beyond the heritage restoration work it was founded on and become one of Toronto’s greatest evangelical supporters through their activism, book publishing and now, Tower Renewal program. Can anybody tell me the location of the building in the photo above? Is it an apartment building?
In the Annex, north of Bloor on Walmer, I believe. Its an Uno Prii-designed building.
Yep — they changed the balcony railings a few years ago though (smoked glass…ug) — just don’t look at them, and it looks kind of the same.
