Photojournalist Dennis Brack will be speaking at Ryerson’s 33rd annual Kodak Lecture Series.

Brack is President of the White House News Photographers Association and has recently been covering the Democratic and Republican conventions, the debates and campaigns of the recent election, as well as the upcoming Presidential inauguration. Brack will be speaking about his role in covering the election and his life as a photojournalist documenting historical events such as the Watergate hearings and American Civil Rights Movement and personalities like Fidel Castro, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, and Anwar Sadat.

The Toronto Public Library is having local acts Gentleman Reg, Slim Twig, and Masia One with Montreal’s Winter Gloves play at the North York Central branch to promote the Library’s CD collection (which has recently been focusing on including local indie acts) and upcoming music workshops.

Free tickets are available at Soundscapes as well as the Parkdale, Malvern, Northern District, North York Central and Toronto Reference libraries.

WHAT: Inspired Lives, Toronto Public Library presents:

Inspired Lives is a program put on by the Toronto Public Library that allows inspirational Canadians to tell their stories.

Terry Evanshen will be speaking on November 12 at the S. Walter Branch (170 Memorial Park Avenue). Terry was in the Canadian Football League until he suffered brain injury from an automobilke accident. He was the focus of the book The Man Who Lost Himself by June Callwood.

Ryan Knighton was diagnosed with a genetic condition at the age of 18 which eventually took his sight. Ryan’s memoirs speak of his transition into blindness. He will be at the Centennial Branch (578 Finch Avenue West) on November 20.

Mariatu Kamara, born in Sierra Leone tells the story of the attack and torture of her by child soldiers and the road to recovery in her book The Bite of the Mango with journalist Susan McClelland. They will be at the Northern District Branch (40 Orchard View Blvd.) on November 25.
