Put on your headphones — Spacing Radio is on the air!
The editors of Spacing are excited to announce the launch of our bi-weekly podcast focused on the joys, obstacles, and politics of the urban landscape. We’ll sit down with compelling and provocative civic leaders from Toronto, Montreal, and cities around the world to discuss the plethora of issues affecting our daily lives in city environments: public transit, sustainability, architecture, and urban design.
Some of you might be familiar with our host, David Michael Lamb. He was the Toronto city hall reporter for CBC Radio and recently moved into the national radio news anchor chair. Every two weeks he’ll step away from that role and take you right into the middle of our shared public spaces to talk with the people that bring our cities to life.
By noon on every other Monday, you’ll be able to download a new show via iTunes [ launches iTunes app ] or listen to us at SpacingRadio.ca. We’ll also be adding a Spacing Radio link and 30-second show preview into the sidebar on the right side of this blog.
Check out Spacing Radio’s first show: we sit down with former London, England mayor Ken Livingstone and discuss congestion charges and road pricing.
Some of our upcoming shows include:
• A look at the public transit-oriented tech toys developers are creating here in Toronto and across Canada
• Examining the role Toronto plays in Earth Day and the green initiatives re-shaping the city
• Coverage from the floor of the Ontario NDP leadership convention in Hamilton

Fantastic! Podcasting is such a great medium.
Is “radio” one of those old fashioned words like “Flaneur” ? : )
Thanks for this ! I’m already subscribing !
This just made my Monday! Great news, and a great first podcast. Looking forward to future episodes.
Congrats to the whole Spacing team and DML – very exciting!
A must listen to my already radio listening day-time experience. Thanks guys.
This is really great news. Having just tried to search for any form of podcast about architecture/urbanism in Toronto (the AGO podcasts seemed to be the only ones easily found, please post if anyone knows of others out there!), I’m really happy that Spacing has decided to launch this.
I’m also happy that podcasts have “saved” radio (as well as totally transforming it). thanks Spacing.
They’re not devoted to architecture and urbanism, but Metro Morning’s podcast does cover issues that tend to be relevant to Toronto.
It hasn’t been quite the same without Andy Barrie, though.
As the British say, f***ing briliant
Hooray! Wonderful news.
That’s great! What I’d really like to hear on the podcasts and also in your regular blog is more about spaces for children, schools, parent/teacher projects to improve school grounds. Doesn’t Evergreen fund a whole category of these projects? I’m going to do something on my blog in the spring, but my blog is mainly read by my friends and family. Urban landscapes affect on children is a really under-reported area of study and I would love to see you guys post more articles on this topic.
You guys at Spacing blow me away with your creative ideas. I’ll be waiting for the next podcast.
Lose the weird theme tune and get The Bicycles to record you a new one and you’re on a winner.
Yeah, I really enjoyed podcast #1, but to be honest the theme tune was a bit off-putting. It doesn’t sound right for a radio program about the urban space…
