Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

  1. A few curves, jogs, and tee intersections are a wonderful enhancement to the streetscape. I was so pleased when they put the parkette in at College and Grace ten years or so ago. Before that, this prominent focus point for the neighbourhood sported only an ugly roof-top billboard. Once again, it’s the little things that count.

  2. I live in Zurich now, but I used to live on that block of College!

Thanks for the little bit of “home.”

  3. The curve exists because there was a ravine snaking along where College now runs, probably a tributary of Garrison Creek. The oldest streetcar tracks ran along a trestle bridge over the ravine, and they can be made out in some of the old bird’s-eye-view etchings of the city in the late 19th c.
