Event Guide: Keep Toronto Reading book exchange

Read more articles by

Our friends at the Toronto Public Library, with whom we’ve partnered again this month on One Book, are holding a book exchange tomorrow at the Toronto Reference Library.

WHAT: Keep Toronto Reading Festival 2010: Book Exchange
WHEN
: Thurs., April 8 (Cash bar opens at 6pm, book swap starts at 7)
WHERE
: Toronto Reference Library, Appel Salon (2nd Floor — 789 Yonge St)

What makes a book great? Moderator Misha Glouberman (Trampoline Hall) intends to find out. As part of the Keep Toronto Reading Festival this April, he’s turning the Appel Salon at the Toronto Reference Library into an economic experiment: a marketplace where the fiercest bidding* determines the most valuable book.

Members of the public are invited to bring a spare copy of their favourite book to swap with panellists Damian Abraham (of the band Fucked Up), Pasha Malla (author of The Withdrawal Method), Zoe Whittall (author of Holding Still for as Long as Possible) and each other. Hardcover, paperback, chapbook, audiobook, ebook – if you love it, bring it, and be prepared to let us all know what makes your book, and books in general, so great.

*(NB: no money will change hands; books — in whatever form — will be the only acceptable currency.)

  1. perhaps consider replacing the phrase “who we’ve again partnered with this month” with the phrase “with whom we’ve partnered again this month”

  2. If you can start monday we’ll have a small but tidy copyeditor desk set up for you at the blog headquarters, mkm.
