  1. This just in:

Province to run airport rail link [Toronto Star]

In a surprise move, Metrolinx has announced that it will own, operate and build the highly anticipated rail link between Union Station and Pearson airport, after the province failed to reach an agreement with SNC-Lavalin.

  2. The SNC APL was a stupid idea that was born out of patronage many moons ago. Its nice to see that the Government finally woke up and agreed with citizens, community groups, transit advocates and MX’s own staff that public transit should be owned by the public to better serve citizens.

Now will the Government listen to all the same people and go electric?

One victory down, one to go.

  3. Most likely scenario: this is the end of the rail link.

  4. Andrew> I hope not but the economics of the rail link have always been suspect.(as have all of the Big Move’s projections, ask Steve Munro).

  5. Is it only obvious to me that this should just be part of the Georgetown GO line? In Japan they have the technology and the habit of linking spur-line cars onto the end of main-line trains… but they, like Europe have a working train culture.
