  1. Re: Parsing the Mayoral Platforms: Finance and Budget

I find it amusing that in a city that scrambles every year to cover a budget shortfall, that Torontoist could endorse a platform that once again fails to address the structural deficit the city faces. 391 million dollars of Smitherman’s plan is explicitly unsustainable. 100 million from selling Enwave, 65 million from selling city land and 76 and 150 million from prior year budget surpluses. That does not include the 100 million in wishful thinking to come from the province to help pay for the TTC. His 2012 budget will start off with a 491 million dollar hole to fill. Change is a coming, ya right.

  2. It is great news that BIXI gets the subscription it needs to get off ground. I remember back in the spring there were a lot people said it did not stand a chance even here. But now it reaches its goal before schedule. I totally agree that the scope of BIXI is too limited in its initial form, to the point its usefulness is questionable, but at least now it has the change to get off the ground, and hopefully, once people see it in reality, people will believe and help it grow into something that really is significant.
