Our friend’s at Fort York provide a suitably regal post-New Years Eve event to welcome in 2011.

WHAT: Lieutenant-Governor’s Levee at Fort York
WHERE: Saturday, 1 January 2011 from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m.

This year The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, is hosting his New Year’s Levee at Fort York National Historic Site, 250 Fort York Boulevard. A tradition in Canada since 1646, the Levee is a special opportunity to meet The Queen’s representative in Ontario, and enjoy festive family entertainment and refreshments. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free. To allow more time for your visit, the Fort will open one hour before the Levee and close one hour after.

  1. Er .. ah .. 1646???

The French didn’t even establish a fort here until 1750.

Presumably a tradition started somewhere else!

  2. Charles Huault de Montmagny, the Governor of New France, held the first levee at Quebec in 1646.
