  1. Re: Q&A: Steve Lafleur on how the Megacity merger helped no one
Q Is it possible that the number of blue-collar jobs are decreasing everywhere and this problem extends beyond Toronto?

Lafleur I would say that’s not the case. If you look at the surrounding cities like Barrie and Vaughan, that’s where all the jobs that used to got to Scarborough, in particular, are going. … Not only is their tax ratio of commercial to residential far lower, roughly 2.5% instead of a little over 4%, but their overall tax rates are lower and their property values are lower. So, automatically it puts these areas of the city at a major disadvantage.

Hey that wounds like something I would say

  2. One of the things that used to be interesting about the Spacing headlines was that it included articles with a wide range of opinions. Increasingly, that doesn’t seem to be happening… I now find myself having to go on the actual newspaper sites to find stuff that I know will be missing from the Spacing headlines for that day. Case in point, 3 articles from today:

I don’t particularly agree with the thoughts expressed by these people, but they do reflect the opinons of many out there. As well, they are hardly being published in obscure journals so someone who wants to be on top of municipal issues should at the very least be aware of what is being said in these publications. Can’t help wondering if there has been a policy shift at Spacing regarding what gets included in headlines.

  3. No policy shift, Samg. Just many more headlines to curate than when we started
