Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

Spacing Satellite: H2 In the Know

After the wet week that Toronto’s had with all of these April Showers, today’s a good time to turn our attention to our city’s water infrastructure.

UPDATE:
Ready to see whether your brain power matches up to this week’s rain power?

Sure enough, most of you had no trouble recognizing the site of this water tower as being just South of the corner of Eglinton and Warden Avenues.

Meanwhile, this week’s bonus round asked where you could find this building’s Torontonian equivalent? (Keeping in mind: that i was important to think of said building from a pre-2003 point-of-view.)

Indeed, while both Will and iSkyscraper suggested the Sears headquarter building on Jarvis Street, I was actually looking for equivalency in name rather than function: a veritable “Sears Tower” exists in Toronto in the form of this water tower at 2200 Islington Avenue. Canadian Water Towers and Standpipes offers an excellent collection of other such photos of Toronto water towers, both past and present.

Thanks for voting, and tune in next week for another Satellite challenge!

  1. Would the bonus be the Sears building on Jarvis north of Dundas?

  2. 222 Jarvis St, of course, the bizarro upside-down office building that used to be the HQ for Sears Canada (along with the former Sears merchandise warehouse next door that is now the Merchandise Building condos).
