Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

Thanks for a great party — now let’s hit the road

It could have been the great view of the financial district, or the historic digs, or the amazing collection of photos on the walls. It could have been the gorgeous weather. But more than likely, it was all of those things, and more, that combined to make last night’s party at the Design Exchange such a hit. For evidence of all the fun we had, check out the slideshow, above, of photos taken throughout the night by Yvonne Bambrick.

Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate the release of our first-ever national issue. As I walked around the room, I heard lively discussions about every conceivable urban hot topic — transit, the budget, green spaces, civic engagement for new Canadians, and much more. Here’s hoping we can continue this kind of engagement as we take this show across Canada; last night’s event also served as a sort of launch for the Spacing Road Show.

Next week, Spacing publisher Matthew Blackett begins a coast-to-coast road trip, stopping along the way at events organized to discuss our city-by-city lists of Canada’s best urban public spaces, and the issues that define and unite urban Canada. Get dates and location details for all upcoming events on the Road Show microsite.

  1. Fantastic party – and a wonderful issue! Question: when will the photos from the photo station be up?

  2. It usually takes a couple days for the photo station pictures to be ready and go up on our flickr. Keep checking the blog, we’ll have a post up as soon as they’re up!
