WHAT: Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington
WHEN: Sunday, July 29th noon-7pm
WHERE: Kensington Market (find us along the north end of Augusta Ave)

For over 8 years, Spacing has been creating unique, Toronto- and urban-centric merchandise items. We’ve sold them through our e-Store, at our release parties, at Word on the Street, and numerous street festivals. In the past, we’ve contemplated doing a pop-up store but that proved to be too difficult to engineer. Enter our new mobile store, the Spacing Bike.

With the help of our good friends at Cubrside Cycle, Spacing got our hands on a Dutch-style cargo bike from Babboe. We then worked with the amazing mill workers from 9 Digits who modified the wood storage box by building us the super-cool table-top that folds out (it was designed so we could add a third panel to the right side).

The Spacing Bike now allows us to go any of Toronto’s large outdoor events (Caribana, Taste of the Danforth, Queen West Art Crawl). We will debuting the Spacing Bike this weekend at P.S. Kensington where we’ll have deals on our current issue, subscriptions, buttons, magnets, and notebooks.

Here’s how the Spacing Bike is transformed into a mobile store:

This is what the cargo bike looks like folded up neatly with all of our merchandise inside the wooden box.

STEP 1: Lift open the first table panel.

STEP 2: Open up second table panel and take out the table legs.

STEP 3: Insert the two legs into the base of the left side table panel.

STEP 4: Place left table panel down.

STEP 5: Unpack the merchandise.

STEP 6: Start pedalling our wares (apologies for the bad pun).

  1. Surely you can only pedal your wares when the store/bike is in the configuration seen in the first picture. It’s peddling that you’re all set for at the end of the sequence.
