Instaflaneur: leaf peeping on the DVP

This Thanksgiving weekend the leaves are at about peak colour in Toronto — but there’s no need to leave the city. Just wander any of the ravines, especially the Don Valley, where long vistas make for good patchwork views. All the better: reminders you’re still in the city and not lost in the wilderness.

  1. Le Corbusier probably didn’t think about flaneurs when he designed the Radial City that looks so much like this DVP pic.

  2. Who says he wasn’t one in his own right? Some of his illustrations suggest otherwise…

  3. The wilderness within Toronto’s ravine systems is the citys greatest natural asset and definitely is something unique to our city. It is unfortunate that more people don’t get out of their cars or off a bus and explore the ravines and the amazing networks of paved and natural trails along them. We need only to descend into these areas to escape the chaos of the city to find such beautiful, amazing natural places close to home. On Sunday October 14th from 1PM to 3PM there will be an annual Salmon Run Walk, led by the TRCA, Toronto Water and other groups along Scarborough’s Highland Creek where participants can see the salmon travelling north to spawn and also the chance to possibly see other wildlife such as deer, beaver and herons that make this area home . If interested in participating in the walk, parking is available at the East Scarborough Storefront at 4040 Lawrence Avenue East

  4. If you haven’t already, take a trip along the Richmond Hill GO line. The scenery through the Don Valley is incredible!
