The Rocket Riders, the Sierra Club of Canada and the Ontario chapter of Transport 2000 have organized a summit on public transportation in the Greater Toronto Area. They have gathered a panel of professionals and activists, and are inviting members of the public to attend.

Events start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 3 (tomorrow) and continue until 9:00 p.m. at Metro Hall, 55 John Street near King. Another day of presentations, panel discussions and round tables takes place on Saturday, November 4, at the same location, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

According to the summit organizer’s press release, “with the advent of the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority, this forum will examine riders’ needs through a combination of presentations by professionals and exchanges of ideas between transit users and transportation planners.”

Attendees include professional facilitators from Hardy Stevenson and Associates, Steve Munro, Ed Levy, Mitch Stambler from the TTC, and representatives from various transit authorities and local governments throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Dr. Christopher Kennedy, professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto, will give the keynote speech on “The Four Pillars of Sustainable Urban Transportation.”

Although the summit is open to the public, people are asked to indicate that they are coming. You can do this, and find a detailed agenda of the procedings, at the website Transitforum.ca.
