Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

Montréal remembers Dawson

Over at Spacing Montréal, contributor Christopher DeWolf reflects on his experience and observations one year ago today after the Dawson College shootings (1 person died and 19 were wounded). Toronto has had its share of gun violence, but we’ve never had to go through what Montréal experienced at Dawson last year or the 1989 massacre at à‰cole Polytechnique where 14 women were gunned down and another 13 wounded.

While Toronto has been fortunate enough to avoided such horrific scenes of violence, I’d be curious to see how the city’s collective psyche would react to such a crisis. We made it through SARS, but our fears back then were about germs, not guns.
