Join the Toronto Tree Tours – A partnership between LEAF and the Toronto Public Space Committee – and the Highland Creek Community Stewardship Project this Sunday for a tour through the colourful changing leaves of Scarborough’s historic Bendale Village.

The tour will take people through the beautiful Birkdale ravine framing the meandering Highland Creek and visit two of the city’s oldest residences. Participants will hear about the great flood of August 2005 and learn of local efforts to restore the banks of the creek with native plantings. We will stroll by historic oak and sugar maple trees, rare Carolinian trees such as the sweet gum and golden rain tree and see remnant orchards planted by Scarborough’s first European immigrants. Participants will also learn easy ways they can help the trees in their neighbourhood and reduce the chances of stormwater flooding.

This Sunday, October 14th at 1pm
Meet at Birkdale Community Centre Parking Lot, 1299 Ellesmere Road
