While you are riding the overcrowded bus to work, it might be impossible to imagine how many other people, on innumerable forms of transit, are scattered throughout the city, just like you. Well, programmer Andrew Walker, of Sumus Technology, has created several videos of major cities’ transit systems to do just that. The images are mesmerizing, as the full breadth of how people move around the city on buses, trains, and ferries is unveiled.

Because I bet you’re wondering, that bus that seems to be spending most of its time in Jersey is the X30, which is an express from Staten Island to midtown Manhattan. The trip takes up to two hours in morning rush-hour, and is referred to by Twitter’s Ellie Blackhall as “soul-destroying.”

There’s one of Toronto that should be profiled here, with colours for each route. Fascinating, the Spadina Car north of King is almost a solid line! The Toronto video has different colours for each route, so Eglinton East towards Leaside is especially interesting.
