Be a Part of Jane’s Walk – May 5 & 6, 2012

Jane’s Walk is a global weekend of free neighbourhood walking tours honouring the legacy of urbanist writer Jane Jacobs. This year’s walks are being held on the weekend of May 5 & 6, 2012.  We are now recruiting walk guides and volunteers for the Vancouver area.

Hosting a walk simply involves planning a walking route through a chosen neighbourhood, thinking through the stories, places and people you want people to learn about and discuss, then leading the walk itself. The subject matter can vary widely–from architecture and history to public art and local restaurants. It’s all about building community connections.

Tour guides are welcome to share the duties with other resourceful friends or colleagues. You can also let us know if you need any assistance.

You can find out a lot more details on the national Jane’s Walk site.

Here’s How You Can Help

  • If you would like to host a walk, you can submit your idea here.
  • If you aren’t up to hosting a walk, but want to help out as a volunteer (assisting other guides, taking photographs, spreading the word, etc), please contact yuri@janeswalk.net.
  • If you have an idea for a walk, but aren’t able to lead it please contact yuri@janeswalk.net, and we will see if I can find somebody else to lead the walk.  If you know somebody else who may be interested in hosting, please let me know as well.
