Although 2013 just began, it seems like 2014 will be an important year for Saanich residents as council is expected to revamp its garbage collection model to collect kitchen scraps.

The new year is starting out with some tension in Victoria, as the union representing some 650 B.C. Transit employees threaten to shout down the Greater Victoria’s public transportation system on Jan. 22 unless B.C. Transit returns to the bargaining table.

A $63.2-million contract has been awarded to PCL Constructors Westcoast to replace the 88 year old Johnson Street Bridge in Victoria, connecting downtown with Victoria West. The contract leaves about $2.8 million to cover unanticipated costs and keep the project’s overall budget within its $92.8-million cap.
