There is an exciting project coming to Commercial Drive on 2014! The Commercial Drive Parklet is one of the selected projects from VIVA Vancouver’s Parklet Pilot Program, which supports the transformation of on-street parking into public spaces. This parklet is to be located right in front of Prado Café and will provide a public space for seating, relaxing and enjoying a good cup of coffee.
The project is lead by two locals of Commercial Drive: Stewart Burgess and Julien Thomas. Also, the fabrication of the Commercial Drive Parklet will allow other community groups and institutions to collaborate in this urban transformation such as BCIT, Britannia Secondary School, public artist Jordan Bent and Prado Café itself. Another unique feature is that the fabrication of the parklet will be recorded by local photographer Eric Scott and will be played in real time at Prado Café!
The team has launched a Kickstarted campaign to bring this idea into realization. Participate in the transformation and improvement of our city by donating here.
