Call to Artists: Alexandra District Energy Centre, City of Richmond
British Columbia, Canada

Budget: Total Budget for all selected projects is $15,000
Submission Deadline: August 28, 2012, 2:00 pm PST

The City of Richmond Public Art Program seeks an artist or artist team to create a public artwork to enhance the new Energy Centre of the City of Richmond’s first district energy utility. This call is open to emerging and established artists/artist teams residing in British Columbia and Alberta.

In its first phase, the innovative new utility will use geothermal energy to heat and cool new residential units being built in Richmond’s West Cambie neighbourhood. At the full build out, it will help avoid the local production of greenhouse gas emissions by 2000 to 6000 tonnes annually. A small Energy Centre building with a public viewing area is sited on park land south of the Greenway, and this will serve as this project’s site for Public Art.

An optional site orientation will be held on July 10th; please see the project’s Terms of Reference for more information: http://www.richmond.ca/culture/publicart/opportunities.htm
