Request for Expressions of Interest, Rogers Arena Public Art Project
800 Griffiths Way, Vancouver

Budget: $585,000 CAD
Deadline: Friday February 15th, 2013 – 3:00pm pst

This Request for Expressions of Interest is issued by Ballard Fine Art on behalf of Aquilini Development and Construction to invite interested professional Artists or Artist teams to submit an Expression of Interest with qualifications for the Rogers Arena Public Art Project.

Aquilini Development and Construction proposes the redevelopment of the Rogers Arena site with three mixed-use, primarily residential towers at 800 Griffiths Way, Vancouver. The project proposes to integrate three new towers and a reshaped ground plan to the existing Rogers Arena site. The proposed plan looks to thoughtfully incorporate the current urban landscape as well as consider the present and future socio-economic, cultural and architectural contexts.

Home to the Vancouver Canucks, Rogers Arena is a cultural landmark located in the heart of Vancouver’s sports and entertainment district. The public space landscape design responds in a substantial yet practical manner to the modified spaces at the ground and viaduct levels, creating a well formed plaza, gathering and transitional spaces that function well during major events as well as other times of day and night. The redevelopment of Rogers Arena provides an exciting public art opportunity for an engaging and dynamic public artwork that will add to Vancouver’s public art conversation.

An art budget of $585,000 has been designated for this project. This budget will include Artist fees, travel, design, artwork fabrication and installation. The selection process will be a Two Stage Limited Open Call to professional Artists or Artist teams living in the Pacific North West. A Selection Committee will shortlist three Artists or Artist teams from the submitted applications to further develop and present a detailed concept proposal. The final Artist or Artist team will be chosen in April 2013.

This Expression of Interest to Artists requires a statement of qualifications, images of previous artwork and a 1-2 page written project proposal. Artists considered will have experience with public art projects of a similar scale and scope.
