Each year we endeavour to bring Thursdays Writing Collective‘s work to an audience outside the Downtown Eastside via a publication. This year, due to funding restrictions, we are unable to publish a chapbook. Our solution is to relaunch the popular Postal Code Reading Series that originated to support V6A: Writing from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2012), whose sales fund the Collective.
We are thrilled to kick off the series with Madeleine Thien and hope you can join us on April 15, 2014 at 12:30pm at SFU’s WAC Bennett Library, Special Collections, Burnaby.
Madeleine Thien, the current SFU Writer in Residence, will be reading a text from our collaborative project “Letterings.” This year Collective members have been writing about the epistolary: letters and communication in all forms. Madeleine is one of five guest authors to write a letter – or “seed” text – to Thursdays Writing Collective that we then respond to in our own individual texts.
At future spring dates downtown guest authors Amber Dawn, Alex Leslie, Clint Burnham and Kevin Spenst will read their texts along with the respondents from the Collective.
We look forward to seeing you!
