Dept. of Funny Signs: Lawn Chair Parking

Posted by Dylan Reid

Lawn Chair Parking

I saw this “official graffiti” stencil on Queen West just east of University, in preparation for the annual Santa Claus Parade this weekend. I think it’s the first time I’ve seen a parking sign for pedestrians. It certainly looks official, although I guess it could be for publicity.

I love the lawn chair icon.

Oh great. Now that its designated some asshat will insist on parking their motor cage on it.

Willing to bet it’s sidewalk grafitti. Could see designated wheelchair — but not at that narrow location.

I saw this last night and thought it was really clever, and definitely a clever way to remind people that it’s this weekend (I had forgotten.)

What about parking for young people’s
wheelchairs and scooters?

According the Santa Claus Parade website, the wheelchair accessible area will be at Berczy Park on Front Street.

Clever idea, but it seems like more marketing to me than anything else. After all, the markings are in close proximity to the Eaton Centre and retailers are really looking for holiday spending this year. As much as I like a good parade, the cynic in me worries that this only encourages others to spray their own ads and promotions onto the sidewalk, something I loathe seeing.

Spotted these on Yonge St. several blocks down from Queen.
