New York artist puts rap quotes on street signs

You might have seen poetry written on paper and stapled to utility poles around your city, but New York artist Jay Shells is taking street poetry to a whole new level.

Shells created official-looking signs with rap lyrics specific to the particular street where each sign is posted. “I’m blacker than midnight on Broadway and Myrtle,” a quote from Mos Def is posted at the corner of Broadway and Myrtle; Kayne West’s “Cause I want to be on 106 and Parks pushing a Benz” is at 106 and Parks.

Here, Shells speaks about his work.
