While I’ve been getting emotional at other places on the Wire lately, I find it’s nice to get a little more geographically diverse in emotion from time to time. So at some point in the next few weeks I’ll likely be going to check out You Are Here: the emotional geography of place, a group show at Eastern Front Gallery. There’s about 30 artists in the show, with a few names I recognize from the east coast as well as from here. If you’re looking to do second that geographic emotion on Sunday, check out the Power Plant’s Creative Cities: Hype or Hope? panel at 4pm. Even if Richard Florida is a weirdo — or if he isn’t — what will we do with his theories? Considering the city says it wants to make investing in “the arts” a priority, it might be worth hashing out exactly what this means. (Free easels on every street corner? Picasso-worshipping rituals in Nathan Phillips Square? Or, perhaps most preposterously, artist housing in the arts and design district?)
