Communicate on City’s Community Arts this Month

Read more articles by

The midpoint of May has just passed and we’re already in the thrall of arts fest madness — a simultaneously anxious and guilty condition brought on by excessive paging through program guides and realizing inadequate spans of time to actually attend said programs.

But creativity is all for the bettering of the city, right? At least, that’s one of the rationales ramping up new fests like Luminato and Nuit Blanche.

Beyond the high gloss of official arts fests, though, are community arts programs that not only present the products of professional artists to members of the public, but encourage members of the public to get involved.

That’s why it’s worth making it to one of the upcoming consultations on the City’s Community Arts programs to ensure their continued support and pitch new ideas. You can also contact the consultations coordinator to give your feedback outside of the meetings. Here’s the details:

Thursday May 17, 6-8pm
Metro Hall, 55 John Rm 304

Thursday May 24, 6-8pm
L’Amoreaux Community Recreation Ctr, 2000 McNicoll Ave, Parkview Rm

Wednesday May 30, 6-8pm
Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, Rms 2 & 3

  1. Hard to believe that Culture is really interested in community arts – when so much of the culture money goes to the big institutions.
